چکیده

In high-energy nuclear collisions at LHC, where a QGP might be created, the degree of thermalization at the partonic level is a key issue. Due to their large mass, heavy quarks are a powerful tool to probe thermalization. We propose to measure azimuthal correlations of heavy-quark hadrons and their decay products. Changes or even the complete absence of these initially existing azimuthal correlations in Pb− Pb collisions might indicate thermalization at the partonic level. We present studies with PYTHIA for p − p collisions at 14 TeV using the two-particle transverse momentum correlator 〈∆pt,1∆pt,2〉 as a sensitive measure of potential changes in these azimuthal correlations. Contributions from transverse radial flow are estimated.

Thermalization in a quasi-one-dimensional ultracold bosonic gas

We study the collisional processes that can lead to thermalization in one-dimensional (1D) systems. For two-body collisions, excitations of transverse modes are the prerequisite for energy exchange and thermalization. At very low temperatures, excitations of transverse modes are exponentially suppressed, thermalization by two-body collisions stops and the system should become integrable. In qua...

Flow Results and Hints of Incomplete Thermalization

We classified v2 measurements according to their sensitivities w.r.t. to two planes, namely, reaction plane and participant plane. Likewise, in v2/ǫ scaling, we showed that one needs to choose a ǫ that is sensitive to the same plane as that v2 is sensitive to. We presented our v2/ǫ as a function of centrality and transverse momentum. We studied the ratio of v4/v 2 2 . We discussed the applicabl...

Anisotropic flow from Lee–Yang zeroes: a practical guide

where 〈. . .〉 here denotes an average over many particles and events. In particular, elliptic flow v2 is recognized as a sensitive probe of thermalization at RHIC [2]. While anisotropic flow is by definition a collective effect that involves many particles, it has mostly been analyzed using methods based either on a study of twoparticle correlations [3–5] or on the cumulants of correlations bet...

Large manual pointing errors, but accurate verbal reports, for indications of target azimuth.

Many tasks have been used to probe human directional knowledge, but relatively little is known about the comparative merits of different means of indicating target azimuth. Few studies have compared action-based versus non-action-based judgments for targets encircling the observer. This comparison promises to illuminate not only the perception of azimuths in the front and rear hemispaces, but a...

Positive Coupling Effect in Gas Condensate Flow Capillary Number Versus Weber Number

Positive coupling effect in gas condensate reservoirs is assessed through a pure theoretical approach. A combination of linear stability analysis and long bubble approximation is applied to describe gas condensate coupled flow and relative permeability, thereof. The role of capillary number in gas condensate flow is clearly expressed through closed formula for relative permeability. While the m...
